Sonic Generations 3DS Review

Sonic Generations 3DS is a portable version of the recent 360/PS3 game that for many (those without a Wii to enjoy Sonic Colors) , was a return to grace for the embattled Sega star. However, this version is very much its own game. Featuring a different set of levels and slightly different gameplay, it provides a nice incentive to pick up the portable version, since you aren’t just getting the same game.

What’s not as nice is there isn’t as much difference between the classic and modern stages as in the full HD version of the game. Both take place primarily in 2D. Classic Sonic even learns the homing attack halfway through the game. Still, the level designs are creative and fun enough that this isn’t a huge issue. The boss fights are also completely different than the HD version, but these aren’t quite as good (other than the last boss). They just seem to lack a bit of excitement.

At the end of the day, its a fine little game worthy of your attention. Though you can easily beat it rather quickly, it has a separate mission mode. Similar to the missions in the HD version, these task you with completing all sorts of different tasks within the various levels, providing a great deal of replay value for the game. There’s even an online multiplayer mode where you can race against other players. I can’t say its one of the finest platformers out there, but its more than serviceable and a nice distraction after completing everything in Mario 3D land.

Top 10 Motion Sickness Inducing Games

Over the years I’ve heard a fair variety of explanations for motion sickness (also known as ‘Simulation sickness’) in gaming. Myself, I suffer pretty badly with it. The advent of popular bad and lazy design decisions, I now play almost exclusively strategy games as first/third person shooters make me particularly unwell. Below, I shall be listing the top ten motion sickness inducing games, from my own experience and those of people who don’t usually suffer from it. Read more

Dark Souls Death of the Week

Zakerai quickly removed his sword from the zombie corpse. It had been a tough kill, certainly tougher than he had expected from the filthy creature after quickly dispatching the others around it. This filthy beasts were doing nothing more than slowing his progress towards the bell that awaited atop the parish up ahead. He had no idea what the bell would do, only that it was very important for his quest. Cleaning his bloody scimitar, Zakerai continued onward. He soon found himself at the bottom of a lengthy set of stairs. All was quiet. Thinking nothing of the quiet, which was a normality is this accursed land, he quickly marched onward. The trap sprung quickly. Before Zakerai knew what was happening, the flaming barrel was rolling down the stairs towards him. It hit him full force, knocking him over and setting parts of his armor aflame. Quickly rolling around to get the flames out, Zakerai slowly got to his feet. Everything seemed to be in order, he had escaped serious harm despite taking the trap in full. That’s when he felt the sword pierce his back. In his joy over surviving the trap, he had forgotten something very important: the zombie that had launched the trap.

RAGE is out – Steam users not happy. But I still want it.

RAGE is now out in the US, and initial reports seem to be that its buggy, and not quite up to expectations. According to Steam forum users, it crashes on start-up for most people, and does not support SLI or CrossFire rigs.

RAGE isn’t out in the UK until Friday, so I’ve not been able to get my hands on it yet. Despite all of the above though, I want it more than ever.

I’m not sure Gabe Newell does actually like Origin…

I just wanted to add a quick note about all this so-called news on PC gamer and Kotaku, as well as others, reporting that Gabe Newell likes EA’s Origin service.

If you actually read the quotes, it comes across more like he’s being nice about it because he’s a nice guy and doesn’t want to trash talk EA – a company Valve has had its differences with sure, but the games are still an asset to have on Steam.

“”I think it does some things well” Newell tells PC Gamer. “I think there are still some areas where, as a customer, I’d like to see it improve. It’s not that different from any other system like this. There are positive things and negative things.”

Now, that is 100% a “meh” answer if i’ve ever heard it.

But Kotaku and PC Gamer insist this is “news”. I insist its bullshit journalism.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Late to the Party Review

Call of Duty 4 burst onto the scene years ago in a blaze of over the top scripted sequences, and MMO-influenced multi-player design. Was it as good as people said? I recently dove into the visceral experience to find out. How modern was Modern Warfare? Read more

Syndicate Re-boot rumors and my thoughts

If you missed Syndicate in the 90′s, you missed a truly cyber-punk game much more worthy of the genre than Deus Ex HR is. You control four elite agents – all fully customisable cyborgs – and send them into the world to assassinate people, recapture former allies and “persuade” potentially useful civilians. Like most other Bullfrog Productions titles, it was a cult hit.

EA are rumored to be rebooting the title with an FPS developed by Chronicles of Riddick dev’s Starbreeze Studios and penned by acclaimed sci-fi/fantasty writer Richard Morgan.
